Part 11 - Dawson City
Dawson City was a real gem and totally worth the drive. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Alaska Part 10 - Top of the World Highway
Top of the World Highway - the reason we rented from a business that allows gravel road travel. The reason the rental company sent us out with 2 spare tires and a tire plug kit. 79 miles, mostly gravel. Runs between the Taylor Highway near Tok, AK and Dawson City, Yukon Territory.

Alaska Part 8 - Denali Scenic Highway
Instead of driving straight back to North Pole, our family headed south to drive the Denali Highway, a gravel scenic seasonal road. Cole and Sydney rode along too. Unfortunately, it was overcast and rainy all day, and only cleared after we left the supposedly beautiful part of the ride.

Alaska Part 7 - Denali National Park
Tim's family and ours camped down near Denali National Park for three nights, spending two days in the park. The Bloomers took an eight hour bus ride on the first day. We racked up an impressive list: a rainbow, a long-tailed jaeger (a life-list sighting if you are a birder), a willow ptarmigan and her chicks, several Dall sheep rams, a cow moose, 13 grizzlies (including a set of spring cubs, a set of one-year cubs and a set of two-year cubs), several caribou, a porcupine, and a Dall nursery (Dall dots).
The second day, we went hiking together and then went for ride in the park.

Alaska Part 6 - Date Night
Paul and I celebrated our anniversary a bit early in Alaska, to take advantage of a really nice restaurant in Fairbanks, plus a trip up to the local hot springs. It turned out that the drive was as nice as the destination - we saw 13 moose in all - cows and some calves.

Alaska Part 1 - Anchorage to Fairbanks
Last post, I alluded to our wonderful vacation. The five of us flew to Alaska to spend a few weeks with my brother Tim's family and then to tour as much as we could of the state. Here's the first installment of our Alaskan saga.

Graduation Weekend
None of us can believe it, but this weekend actually has come and gone. Kristen graduated high school. How time has flown. Enjoy the pictures of what promises to be a great memory.
