Bathroom - almost there

Hello all,

The final plumbing was done this morning, so I took some pictures of the latest improvements. Under the tile, there is an in-floor heat cable, so that we don't have to freeze our feet in the winter. The heat cable stretches from the carpet landing at the bottom of the stairs all the way in front of the toilet and tub.

Paul put the first coat of sealant on the grout a few minutes ago. After the next coat of sealant tomorrow, we'll be ready to use the shower. We still have to put up the shower rod and construct the cabinets we bought for the back wall, buy some towel rods and put them up, then buy the trim, paint and install it, and so on...

Sweet 16 Party

Hi everyone,

Yesterday (Saturday) we had Kristen's Sweet 16th Birthday Party. She doesn't turn 16 until the 28th, but it seemed prudent to schedule it early, what with the end of year concerts, awards, band performances at graduation, Memorial Day, exams and, oh yes, a baby coming.

Kristen chose the "Twilight" movie and book series as her theme. She has read all four books, as have Paul and I (we had to see what all the hub-bub was about). For those who haven't seen the movie or heard of the series, it's a nicely written teen series about good vampires and a couple of other fictional beings (not spoiling, in case you wish to read). So all the decorations were black and red, with items from the covers of the books.

We held the party at the barn, thanks to Ken and Jennifer. Ken helped us clean out his big garage as, predictably, it was raining (it always rains on Kristen's parties - we're used to it). We spent hours decorating with black and red streamers and ribbons, red apples, red tulips, etc. on Saturday. Later, Paul and James grilled burgers and hot dogs while Kristen showed her 5 guests around. After dinner, Kristen led three of the girls around on Cinnamon, the horse Kristen borrows from Ken and Jennifer whenever she has time to ride. Two of the girls are sidelined due to knee injuries.

After riding, the girls had dessert: werewolf chow, red velvet cookies, cake and blood clot punch (red pop and jello). Kristen opened her gifts and collected food items for the Enon Relief food pantry. Then the girls went to our house to watch "Twilight" the movie (for the umpteenth time for most of them). I'm posting a picture of the cake, a red velvet heart with vampire pale cream cheese frosting.

Awards and Progress

Kristen and I attended the Greenon High School awards ceremony tonight. Kristen received a 1st year academic excellence award plaque. She accomplished this by having a GPA of 3.75 or higher for the year. Paul and I are really proud of her.

Paul and I finished painting the bathroom last night. Tomorrow night, Greg will come to put in the drop ceiling. We might only have a week to go before the bathroom is done!!
